When the warmer, summer weather arrives, it’s important to keep an extra close eye on your pet. The reason being is that when the heat kicks in, it can take a toll on their health — which is something that no pet owner wants their “baby” to go through, ever. If you’re looking to make this summer safe and enjoyable for your pet, here are a few tips to keep in mind:
Keep the Water Flowing
One of the most important things that any pet owner can do all-year-long is to keep their pet hydrated. Especially on those hot summer days, you’ll want to keep a close eye on your pet’s water bowl/dispenser and make sure that it’s filled at all times; that way, your pet will be able to quench their thirst at any given time.
Limit Outdoor Time
Unlike the fall or spring, you’ll want to limit your pet’s time in the sun. Even if the forecast states that the temperature won’t rise above a certain temperature, it’s still important to make sure that they’re not sitting out there for too long. If your pet does want to spend time outside, then it’s best to be outside with them, monitor them, and provide water and snacks when needed.
Be Careful with Pools
Do you happen to have an inground pool in your backyard? If you do, typically there’s a fence around it — but if yours doesn’t have any sort of barrier, you’ll want to make sure that you keep a close eye on your pet, since most will be tempted to wander into the water unsupervised.
Now, if you happen to be a dog owner going for a swim, and your pooch wants to join, make sure that you’re watching them very carefully. If your dog wants to get out of the pool and needs assistance, help them out the minute you sense it.
