What Can I Feed My Guinea Pig?

If you’re looking to get a guinea pig in your life, then you’re in for a real treat: they’re one of the sweetest, cuddliest animals around! Of course, once you adopt your little bundle of joy, you’ll have to find a great condo (cage), some furniture (accessories) and a list of what to feed your little buddy! Lucky for you, we’ve compiled a list of what you can feed your new little friend! Without further ado, here are some popular options to prepare for them:

Variety of Veggies

A culinary staple for guinea pigs happens to be vegetables! Whether it’s romaine lettuce or celery, your “piggy” will love any meal that includes a sea of vibrant colors. Some of the best  veggies are, but are not limited to:

  • Peas

  • Carrots

  • Spinach

  • Kale

And the list goes on and on! Of course, if you’re not sure if you can feed your guinea pig a specific vegetable, then it’s essential to consult with your vet before giving it to your little buddy! Additionally, just like you’d wash your veggies with water (preferably, purified), you’ll want to do the same for your guinea pig! This will help clean anything that might linger on the veggies and will make them much safer for your pal to eat!

Plenty of Pellets

A food group that many owners will introduce to their guinea pig are pellets. Pellets are an excellent choice for your little buddy and will help nourish their appetite. Before you feed your guinea pig any array of pellets, it’s best to do your research and see which will be more beneficial for them. Some pellets are rich in vitamins and host other benefits, but it’s best to consult with your veterinarian to see which brands they recommend specifically for your guinea pig’s appetite!
