One of the most upsetting moments for any bird owner is finding out that their feathered friend is sick. While it can sometimes be obvious that your little pal is not feeling well, there are times where it will be a tad challenging to diagnose the problem just by observing them. However, if you’re not sure whether or not your bird is sick, here are some of the most common signs to look for.
Not as Active
Does your bird typically tend to run around their cage, always staying active throughout the day? Sometimes, when your feathered friend is feeling a tad under the weather, they might not be as productive as they once were. This will stick out to you, especially if you’re used to them playing with toys in their cage.
Is your bird generally cheery and energetic? Well, if they happen to be coming down with something that could change. As sad as it may seem, a sick feathered friend might go from happy to sad, and just like their activity levels, it will be completely obvious to you.
Another common sign of a bird being ill is trouble breathing. Whether they’re walking around their cage or sitting on their perch, if you happen to hear or see that they’re having difficulty breathing, it’s important to contact your veterinarian right away.
Have you noticed that your bird is sneezing a tad more than usual? Well, you may have guessed it, but your bird is most likely coming down with something. Of course, there could be an occasional sneeze here and there, but if it’s more frequent, then it’s time for a visit to the vet.
While these are only a few of the many symptoms your bird can have, if you are ever in doubt, always bring your bird to the veterinarian right away.
