One of the most startling things to see when you’re bird owner is if your pet has mites. Granted, not every feathered friend may have them or get them, but it you’re not sure whether or not your bird has mites, then here are some signs to look for:
The first sign of a bird having mites it that they will be completely restless. Of course, there are times when your pal will have bursts of energy throughout the day, but if you happen to see them running amok throughout your home or they cannot get comfortable when resting or sleeping, then there’s a possibility that they have mites.
Formation of Crust
Another sign that mites are present is that there will be a crust on your bird. Whether it forms around their beak or eyes, you’ll want to examine their entire body to see if you find crust in any other area. The reason crust forms is because the mites burrow into the skin and leave their mark in the form of this horrid crust.
Loss of Feathers
If you happen to notice that your bird is losing feathers at an alarming rate, then we have some news for you: it could be because of mites. The reason being is that this is typically because the bird will do everything in their power to not only get rid of the mites, but to help keep themselves clean in the process since (you guessed it), mites dirty and wreak havoc on your feathered friend.
