As a pet owner, you always want to do everything you can to make sure that your bird is living a happy and healthy life.
Whether you are new to bird ownership or you've had your pet for several years, you'll notice that they use their beaks for everything. Whether it be climbing around the cage or picking food out of their dish, beak health is an essential part of their life.
These tips will help you make sure that your bird's beak is strong.
Beak Health Tips:
Maintain a Healthy Diet - A healthy diet is essential to keeping your exotic bird's beak healthy and strong. Make sure that they are fed a well-balanced diet with plenty of nutrients. If you have any questions about the type of diet that you should be feeding your pet, visit our store!
Provide Plenty of Toys - You should add soft wood and other destructible toys for your bird to play with and chew on. This will help prevent the buildup of keratin on the surface of the beak. This helps keep their beak trim and healthy while they chew.
Add Cuttlebones to Their Cage - Mineral blocks and cuttlebones contain minerals (usually calcium) that help keep your bird's beak strong.
If your bird's beak is smooth, symmetrical, and the upper and lower beak are in alignment, their beak is healthy and in good condition. Keep an eye out for overgrowth, unusual textures, and peeling. If you notice any of these symptoms, your pet may need a change in diet and care.
