Thanksgiving is just a few days away and while you might have your menu planned out, do you have any special treats set aside for your pets? Here are a few pet-friendly Thanksgiving treats you might want to serve at dinner this week.
Green Veggies - Hang a few greens around your parakeet’s cage. Your pet will appreciate the extra nutrition. Try broccoli, romaine lettuce or green beans.
Sweet Potato Balls - If you’re feeling crafty, make your own freeze-and-thaw treats! Combining one peeled, tender sweet potato (cooked about 5-9 minutes in the microwave), ½ cup of raisins and one mashed banana. Roll the mixture into balls and place on a baking sheet in the freezer. Defrost before serving to your feathered friend. View the complete recipe here.
Biscuits - Dog biscuits are a delicious treat for your dog on Thanksgiving! You can even try making your own, homemade version. Try a few DIY recipes here.
Bones - If your pet loves bones, try a turkey flavored bone! Just remember to not use an actual turkey bone, as these can easily break and cause splinters.
Sweet Potatoes - Add some sweet potatoes to your cat’s dinner! Just be sure to leave out any butter, brown sugar and marshmallows. In small quantities, plain, cooked sweet potatoes can be very nutritious for your cat.
Pumpkin Smoothies - While your feline friend can’t indulge in pumpkin pie, they can have their own pet-friendly version! Place ½ can of pumpkin puree in a blender with ½ cup of plain non-fat yogurt. Pour the mixture into 8 small paper cups. One paper cup is a serving for your pet. (Bonus: Fido can have this treat, too!)
