Birds are one of the best pets that you can have. They’re entertaining, beautiful, and with good care — they can live long and happy lives! But while we want our pets to live forever, certain species of birds live longer than others.  In fact, some parrots will outlive their owners! Below are a few of the longest living parrot species that there are.

Long Living Parrot Species:

Macaws

Large parrots like Macaws are among the longest living parrot species. Healthy Macaw parrots live an average of 50 years. But they have been known to live up to 100 years!

Amazons

Like Macaws, Amazon parrots can live for a very long time. They live an average of 25 to 50 years. Again, these parrots have the potential to live even longer!

African Greys

African grey parrots that are famous for their speaking ability and intelligence live about 40 years. However, they have been known to live beyond the age of 60!

Cockatoos

These parrots are also a long-living species — often reaching the age of 40 years old or more.

Cockatiels

Cockatiels are one of the most popular bird species. They can reach 25-30 years old!

Quaker Parakeets

These parakeets are an exception to the “larger parrots live longer” rule! These small parrots can live on average 25 to 30 years.
