Frequently Asked Questions:

What should I feed my lory?

Lories are different from other parrot species. They have a natural diet of nectar, fruit and bugs -- not seeds! Instead, pet parents can feed them meal worms, lory nectar and fruit. There are several commercial nectar products on the market that you can feed your feathered friend. However, you can also add fresh fruits into the mix -- like grapes, figs, and berries.

What kind of cage does my lory need?

At a minimum, you want to make sure that your cage is large enough for your bird to stretch his or her wings without touching. However, the bigger the cage, the better!

What kind of personality do lories have?

Lories are not a shy species. These birds are lively, entertaining, and love their playtime. Lories love to talk -- and they can learn to mimic speech. They require plenty of attention and love spending time out of of the cage with YOU. This intelligent bird can also be mischievous, so make sure that you keep a very close eye on your bird when he or she is out of the cage.

Note: Due to their excitable personality, they are not for everyone. If you want a more laid back feathered companion, the lory is not right for your family.

What kind of toys should I give my lory?

Since lories are such an active species, it is important to provide your lory with toys. Fortunately, lories will consider almost anything a toy! Add ropes, plastic balls, wooden swings and more to your pet’s cage!
