Cockatoos are a beautiful, intelligent bird species. They’re well known for their head bobbing, dancing and loud calls. Thinking of adding a Cockatoo to your family? Here are a few FAQs to keep in mind when caring for your new Cockatoo.

Cockatoo FAQs:

What is a Cockatoo’s temperament?

Cockatoos are friendly birds, but they are also prone to being very loud at times. They’re unique, affectionate and often comical! You might find your cockatoo dancing or bopping his head. However, like any bird, your Cockatoo needs plenty of love and affection. If left alone, Cockatoos might scream out of frustration or boredom.

What kind of cage does my Cockatoo need?

The bigger, the better! Since Cockatoos can be larger in size, you should have a cage that is at least 40 inches wide by 30 inches deep. Find a cage that works best for both your space and for your new bird.

What kind of toys should I give my Cockatoo?

Cockatoos are very intelligent birds. They need plenty of toys to keep them entertained and engaged. Swap toys out and cycle them back in to keep your bird from tiring of a toy. Teething rings, bells, rope toys and rattles are great toys to keep your bird entertained.

What should I feed my Cockatoo?

A healthy diet consists of pellets/seed supplemented by fresh vegetables, fruits and nuts. Apples, pears, plums, carrots, and broccoli are all great supplements to your bird’s diet.
